Minutes of DWHC Meeting 20th September 2010

1. Present

3. Mins of last Meeting

(6th Sept). 9 people attended last meeting. Main theme was preparation for the public meeting scheduled for 16th Sept

4. Rich Moth

Rich had written to the DWHC to advise that he had moved from Islington to pursue his studies. The meeting agreed to thank him for his major contributon to the campaign.

5. Public meeting, 16th Sept

There was discussion on the recent public meeting at Archway Methodist Hall. This was chaired by Jeremy Corbyn MP and the main speakers were:-

  • Dr Ben Timmis FRCR, Chairman of The Whittington Hospital Support Committee
  • Councillor Martin Klute, Chair of Islington’s Health and Wellbeing Scrutiny Committee
  • Monica Schwartz, on behalf of the voluntary sector in Haringey, Islington, Camden and Enfield
  • Shirley Franklin, Chair of DWHC
  • Stephen Conroy, Communications Director, NHS North Central London


    • At least 14 people spoke from the floor.

    6. Public Consultation on the White Paper

    The meeting agreed to write an open letter to Andrew Lansley, to express objections to the White Paper.

    7. Sotheby Day Centre

    This is at risk and a petition is in circulation. Note – this is being covered by the IHOOPS campaign.

  • Tue 21st September. Link Event. meeting, 5:45pm
  • Wed 22nd September. IHOOPS planning meeting
  • Sun 3rd October. Protest at Tory Party Conference (organised by Right to Work campaign)
  • Tue 5th October. IHOOPS Public meeting
  • Tue 12th October. Scrutiny Committee meeting
  • Wed 20th October. National Day of Action (TUC) to coincide with Spending review.
  • Mon 25th October. Next DWHC meeting, Whittington Community Centre.
